Flowers Under $110

Under $110 the skill is what you leave out: one variety, enough stems to register, nothing padded. Tulips, lisianthus, carnations and spray roses.

What a bouquet under $110 actually buys

Here is the arithmetic nobody prints. Below about $110, a delivered bouquet in Los Angeles is mostly stem cost, and the design has to work with fewer stems than the photograph in your head. Anyone selling a twenty-flower mixed arrangement at this price is selling twenty cheap flowers.

So the entire skill at this end is deciding what to leave out. One variety at this price looks deliberate and generous. The same money split across five varieties looks thin, because every variety needs enough stems to register, and five thin groups read as five mistakes. This is the clearest case for the format described in the mono-bouquet, and why it is harder.

Where the value sits

Tulips give you the most visible flower for the money, and they carry on growing in the vase, an inch or two, so the arrangement changes shape over three days. Lisianthus costs more per stem, but each stem carries several blooms and can hold up to two weeks. Carnations outlast everything else on this page. Spray roses put five small heads on a single stem, which is why they appear here so often.

Where it does not

Flown-in flowers with a short vase life are a poor use of a small budget, and so is anything that needs a large vessel before it looks like anything. Peonies are the obvious example: imported in every month of the year, priced to match, and not a sensible choice under $110 unless the northern crop happens to be at its peak.

Honest limits

This is the right page for a colleague's birthday, a thank you, a Tuesday for no particular reason, a hospital room where the flowers will be moved twice before anyone finds a vase. It is the wrong page for a dining table centrepiece, a lobby, or anything that has to fill space rather than be looked at closely. For those, go to $110 to $190, where the extra money mostly buys stem count rather than better stems.

Whatever you spend, the terms are identical: if the flowers arrive and they are not fresh, we replace them or refund you.
